The purple part is fabric (front and back). I'm planning to use my dad's camera to take a better close up.

Hi, Eve, I've never visited your blog--our Quilt Studio list is so large it's hard to get around to 'meet' everyone. I love your varied works, the fairy postcard, the fabric earrings and the bear postcard among my favorites. I do thread painting and will have to try the two strands of thread through the needle.
